In the next couple of
weeks we will be introducing the students to opinion writing and we are using personal collections as an introduction activity. Please look around your home and have the children bring in a collection of 5 items. Please ensure this is a collection - 5 items that have something in common - like my collection, above. They are all shoes and they are all Christmas ornaments.
These
items will need to stay at school for a couple of weeks so when choosing items,
please choose items that are not valuable, eatable or breakable. Please have
your child choose one item that is their favorite and discuss with your child
why the one they picked is their favorite. Maybe they like the color or design
best or maybe it works better than another item? This is how we will begin our
opinion writing unit so it will be helpful to talk about the collection before
sending it to school.
