We Celebrate!

Image preview CRAZY PATTERN DAY!

I CAN REPRESENT information.
Our class showed a lot of community spirit today for our PLENTY OF PATTERNS Spirit Day.

In Social Studies, we talked about the many special ways we celebrate.  We discussed how different people have different celebrations and how we can celebrate in different ways.  We also celebrate with different groups.

Our Families/cultural communities:
-Birthdays
-Cultural holidays like (Ramadan, Diwali, Christmas, Hanukah)

Our School Community
-Flashlight Fridays (celebrate our reading goals)
-Spirit Days (Crazy Hair Day, PJ day, Plenty of Patterns)
-Terry Fox Run
-Sports Day
-Orange Shirt Day, Remembrance Day (observe)

Our City/Neighbourhood
-Stampede
-Neighbour Day
-Lilac Festival
-Calgary Folk Festival
-Earth Hour
-Beakerhead
-Carnival (in Quebec)
-Tulip Festival (in Ottawa)

Our Country/Region
-Canada Day
-Labour Day
-Family Day
-Orange Shirt/ Terry Fox/ Remembrance Day (observe)

We discussed Spirit Days are ways to build community with all kids in the school.  In small groups, the students brainstormed what they wanted to have for the next Spirit Day.  Then we voted for our favourite.  Wear a Jersey (Team Shirt) Day won.  We wrote a letter to Mrs. Friesen with our suggestion.

On Friday, we are going to make a chart about our celebrations.  Have a discussion about the celebrations you observe in your family so your child will be able to share, which celebrations they participate in for our chart.
Ex. Ramadan, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, Diwali, Kwanza, Chinese New Year........
